The cable for me hood release broke. Thankfully the hood was ajar, and was able to slide my fingers in enough to press the realease on it. Wondered if anyone however has had the misfortune of it breaking, and how do you get the hood open????

In a non A/C car you can reach up from under the passenger fender and release the latch on that side, or both if the crossing cable is intact. You can also, on later models, slide a screwdriver through an access hole in the wiper trough to release the latches.

you might be able to use a hook to grab cross cable and pull it to open it you can get to bolts on front hinge pass.side then lift hood enough to get to on the cone bolts and unbolt them I didi that to get mine open
I have a wire hooked to the latches hanging down the firewall, so I can slide under the front wheels, and pull the wire if ever needed. But most of all I keep my eye on my cables and latches and lube them yearly.
The cable breaking happened to me about 2 weeks ago. When it broke, the hood was still down....and I had a show to get ready for the next day
Anyway, I took the car to a local Corvette body shop and watched them unlatch the hood in about 1 minute!! They jacked up the car on the driver's side, reached WAY up the engine compartment, close to the latch and pushed the latch and VOLA, the hood popped open.
Good Luck!
p.S. I do like the idea of have a wire down the firewall as an emergency opener....

That is a great Idea with the cable hanging down as a back up. I will do that very soon on mine.

Same here. Did it after I had to use the screwdriver method on my '82 and '72.

I have the same thing, you only need to lock yourself out of the engine bay once in your life
I had this happen on the way to the last car show of 2007 last Nov.
3rd. After I setteled down and started thinking clearly I went to a Auto Zone and bought a screw driver , removed the driver side egg crate grill , at that point it is very easy to reach in while sitting on the ground and puch latch by hand. Same can be done on P/S if no A/C.
If you have A/C I suggest that you make sure your cross cable and pins / retainers are in top condition.
I just took the egg crate out of the fender and reached up and unlatched it on my 72.
Thats a great Idea. However on my 70, someone in its past decided to do away with the egg crates and section in 73 and up recesses. This just gives me one more reason to dis-like the desicion that someone made to do that mod!!!!!!
