I was able to get it out of my '79 without removing the dash. If you kneel outside the car, reach under the dash with your right arm. Follow the cable to dash. There is a little tab that when pushed, it will release it from the speedo. The new cable will 'snap' back on.
If you have criuse, your car will have 2 cables.
