I've got a 69 convert I'm starting to work on and need to take out the headlight header bar as the rivets are popping thru the glass. Can anyone give me any suggestions on the best way to remove, fix the glass and replace the header bar? I've tried to find some posts on this with no luck. Thanks
There are posts out there on it. I drilled out every head 5/8" then use a smaller bit to finish the neck of the rivet. Ther are a lot of them but, they have to be removed and all fragments. Once they are all removed the header will drop free.
Position your new with headlights attached so they move free and clamp in place. I used small self tapping screws as guides through the nose into the header. Use fusor on the header and screw the screws back in (correct position) and clamp NOT tightly.
Use fusor to fill the holes. I used glass, and rage but paint shop said it would be noticeable on a direct sunlight area. They ground out and filled with fusor to the top.
There are lots of posts on the procedure, but a handy tip I used to prevent over clamping is to place #10 stainless steel washers in the fusor prior to clamping. Then, when you clamp, the washer will get squeezed in the middle, esuring about 1/16th of an inch of adhesive between the bar and the fiberglass. Good luck.
