I'd like to do a little to dress up this engine before digging into a manual trans swap from auto. I've got a long neck chrome water pump to combat the ugly thing that this ZZ4 arrived with and I'm figuring I can fix up that intake with some elbow grease and a few well spent $$'s.
I'm interested in feedback on going with stainless hoses vs braided hose kits for radiator hoses, etc (dig that fuel filter? ). Do stainless hoses hold in heat more than others? I've got a bit of trouble keeping this thing cool in the summer, and a Dewitt isn't in the cards for awhile. Also, curious if anyone has any recommendations on some centerbolt valve covers? Pics would be great of some of your engines to give me few additional ideas.
I've tried attaching a pic of what I'm dealing with but it my first try so hopefully it will work...
Why did you get a long water pump? It looks like you have V-belts to me, and as far as I know a V-belt setup with mechanical fan won't work properly on a Vette with a long water pump.
What's your budget for valve covers? They get expensive fast.
Hi Durango,
Got the chrome water pump for $25 slightly used so I gambled. Pump has no visible signs of wear so I thought I'd give it a try. You suggesting I need a new pulley system to get the geometry correct? I can tell by just holding it close it isn't going to just bolt on. Perhaps I'm looking at something more severe so I'm best ditching it for short neck or alternate setup?

Yes all Corvettes are short pumps because of how close the radiator is to the fan. I went with a long pump but I also switched to serpentine and electric fans. If you want to use the long pump you will need accessories from a car or truck that used the long pump, and you will need electric fan/s.
I would be interested in finding out if he can produce at least an upper rad hose but I'm guessing he would need the car if he has to custom make each on to chape? If that is not the case let me know. Thanks.

I have made similar upper hoses. I took the stock upper hose to an exhaust shop, and had them custom bend me one that matched the shape, and a wire template I took to show actual fit pattern when it was removed and flexed. Once they had it finished I polished it, and used silicon rubber joints to connect it to the neck, and upper radiator port. The tube could be painted or powder coated too.
