Hi, I just picked up my 75 from the shop for inspection, they said the shims on the rear control are where loose and hanging out. Does anyone have a picture of the shims on the control arm installed correctly? Also is this difficult to fix myself? Thanks
Not for sure what you're referring to. Do you mean the trailing arms on the rear suspension? If so the shims are supposed to stick out a bit and they're slotted where they fit over the bolt that holds the front of the TA into the frame. There should be a cotter pin holding them in so they should be "hanging out" a bit and they don't need to be so tight that you can't move them. Has this shop had any experience with old Corvettes? If not I think I'd go somewhere else.
Shims Do Stick Out On Both Sides Of Trailing Arm. Should Have Long Cotter Pin Holding Them In. Should Not Be Loose. If They Are, Remove Cotter Pin And Tighten Castle Nut On Outside Of Thru-bolt Going Thru Frame. Replace Cotter Pin.

Thanks for the replies, I meant the trailering arms in the rear. The shop that inspected it is just a regular shop not specializing in vettes, I will get underneath tomorrow to take a look.

Sidepiper - where are you in Mont County? If you are near Soudertown, go to Jerry's on old Bethlehem Pike. I have used Jeff to the the alignment on my 3 Vettes for 10-11 years. And he is a car guy!

Thanks John, Will I need to suppliy new shims? Thanks
Corvette rear shims are an oddball part that most shops won't have. All of the vendors carry stainless replacement kits. There are at least two different manufacturers of the kits that I've seen, but both are of comparable quality.
You definitely need a shop with lots of experience in C3's. They are different than the thousands of other cars a normal alignment shop sees. I recently had mine done correctly after installing new springs all around and it is a huge difference.
