Default BB / Headers / Plug Wires/Boots

OK - I've done a search on this, but didn't find the exact answer...

I added Hedman #68090 headers to my 69 427/390 - I was using straight boot accel wires and the #1 wire is so close to the header that there was some arcing (#3 is also close, but not arcing as of yet)

I bought a set of nice Taylor 8mm wires with 135' boots thinking this would solve my prob but turns out that their boots are a little bulky (they have a little "handle" molded in)

so I checked the search/archives and there are a lot of answers and suggestions - "Iron Cross" always posts that he runs 90' boots behind the headers, but I have a nice set of looms where the wires run up along the bottom bolts of the v/c then up to distrib (actually a GM part - its the same set up used on ZZ502)

I am just looking for someone who has the same headers and want to know what wires and what style boots they are using successfully - Thanks

This is an issue I've had too (BB w/Hookers). I'm looking at Jacobs ceramics, but not so sure straight or 90* ends will fit every cylinder properly...

I had exactly the same problem, thing was that it took me forever to find out why when the engine was on full load it would drop down on one cylinder yet was perfect on cruise. It was only when running it-up with hood open at night that it became apparent. I used straight boots and bent the inner metal over at an angle.

I don't have your exact setup but with mine I did a combination of 90 degree and flexible boots. The flexible's are MSD's and you can bend them to a custom angle. You might find that a combo of angles will work best for you too. Also, the way they are routed will also determine the best angles. Good luck!

I found the best way with big tube headers {2 1/8 primaries is to go down the back and up underneath the headers using 90 degree plug boots for a BB. Nothing extra needed and loads of clearance on all the plugs and simply accomplished. Plus no unsightly wires running all over. Safely out of sight and out of mind.
Pictures are worth a 1000 words sometimes. This applies only to headers, not those still using manifolds

Right now I have the stock braided wires on with Summit spark plug boot protectors. So far it's working well.

Same headers by the way

I really like the look Ironcross has.
I might go that route in the future.
Looks great without all the wires.

I used race plugs 135 degree boots with talyor fiberglass socks.
No arcing, maybe the fiberglass boots help.

Thats a good setup too. Maybe the fiberglass socks/heat shields are helping preventing the burns and arcing.
