I just finished 1200 wet sanding my week old paint. When it was all dull we (I had some help) buffed if with micro finishing coumpound and then 3m perfect it hand glaze. I am going to wait until tomorrow to wax it. Now it's Miller time!!
Yes I did sand, fix, prime, and paint it myself although I did have a little help. I have pics on home page in primer and finished before it was buffed.
Well as I am now stripping my vette for painting I know what you have gone through.wish I had a garage to repaint it myself.
I may be wrong but I have read several places that new paint should not be waxed for at least 30 days to allow paint to totally cure.
yeah pics of new paint job would be noce to see.
wave on. \ ////
I agree do not wax it for a while, The thinners will need to come out of the paint for a while yet. Make sure the car sits for at least 30 days. I let mine sit for 6 months before waxing. The paint will remain soft for quite a while .
Not to tell you what to do but, waxing after hand glazing is not necessary, as a matter of fact if you use a good cleaner wax you'll just be taking off the hand glaze you worked so hard to put on and if you use a none cleaning wax you'll just be causing a build up that could actually make your new paint look like it has a film on it. Just some things to think about. The thirty day rule for wax only applies if you don't use a catalyst hardner in your acrylic enamel paint, see you already hand glazed it so you did the same as waxing accept it's better than wax.
I used Matrix acrlyic urethane with a catalyzed clear coat. The wax I like to use is pinnacle which is a pure carnuba wax with no abrasives. I have had great results with it. Here in Florida wax is a needed due to Love bugs, tree sap and intense sun. A hand glaze is great for shine and show but offers little in the way of protection.
