why would one headlight close much slower than the other?

Hello,
I dont have the answer for you on this, but it is a common occurence. I think that as you get more answers to your question you will find that this is pretty common.

My cars do the same thing, and I think it is usually the left first, then the right goes down.

yep......the left goes down first.......sometimes the right lags and doesnt close

Could be a bad seal in one of the headlight actuators, could be a leaking vacuum hose, could be a clogged vacuum filter or valve, etc.

Find a C3 that has headlights that open and close in sync, and you'll find a C3 that's been converted to electric headlight operation.

I had the same problem and I got rebuild kits for my actuators. Now they come and go down together.

I would have a look at the entire system to make sure there aren't any other little problems. I agree with everyone that it is probably your servos but I had to fix a cracked T connector and replace the filter and check valve as well as replace the servos. Now the lights work pretty good. The little parts are cheap but are just as important for a correctly functioning system.
