My wife has an 82 Collector's edition that idles high and has a misfire at idle. I have completly tuned the engine, new valve seals, adjusted the rockers, checked for vacuum leaks, changed the idle air motors, had the engine on an oscilliscope and found no other obvious problems.
here is a link to the valve seal install that I wrote. http://temp.corvetteforum.net/classi...-Install.shtml
I was told that the throttle body shafts bores wear and can cause this problem.
Anyone use this guys units and how was the results?
Thanks, Joe
Don't buy them, I did and they now sit on a bin somewhere in the garage. Go to the DCS site...at work, don't have link...and those guys know how to do it right. You have to send them yours as they don't stock sets but at least you know you're getting your originals back. They also have the fuel pressure gauge setup, pressure adjust tool, and a lot of helpful information.
I did the same thing...tune up, scope, injectors, IACs, etc., and none of it fixed my idle and popping. The other key is you can actually balance the factory bodies much easier because the small ports remain intact.
Get the bodies overhauled by them, make sure you have enough fuel pressure...I didn't...and you'll be fine. My 82 runs great and I was ready to do a TPI swap and pitch the CFI.

My Tb's are with DCS being overhauled right now , They are a great bunch of guys , really helpful and knowledgeable. They will set you straight.
Check out http://www.crossfire.homeip.net/cftest/default.asp The crossfire injection vault and look for members Buccaneer and Elkabong , they run DCS and will answer any questions you have of their services .
I can't wait to get mine back and fitted to feel the difference and from the number of happy customers I have heard from through the Xfire forum , I will not be dissapointed.

They know what there doing! BUT I don't see how a vac. leak is causing your popping and misfire? It should only cause a high idol. unless you have a bigger vac. leak than a worn throttle shaft.
Isn't there an electronic module in the HEI distributor that could cause that kind of problem? (Or was that replaced by the computer control in the '82?)

I think for me it was a combination of correct fuel pressure and fixing the vac leak.
I had a scanner on it and there are no codes. When I first got the car the thermostat was stuck wide open so I thought I had it, but no! I replace the coolant sensor when I changed the stat.
I am fouling number 4 spark plug also.
I will check out there website.
Thanks,
Joe
If you are fouling number 4 it could be a lifter, pushrod, or valve spring.Worse case scenario a cam lobe. It could also be the module in the distributor.
The high idle is a different storey. Lokk at your TBI's. have they been tampered with. The idle screw is set from the factory and is welded into postion. You need to grind the weld off and replace the screw to adjust the idle. Has the weld been removed. Secondly the ports to access the minimum air setting screws are factory capped. There is one on each TBI on the side facing the firewall. To adjust you need to pop the caps. Are the caps gone?
when i had a wet plug ,i had a bad cam lobe . check wire ,check plug .check cam .to check throttle shafts you can spray wd-40 [have used carb cleaner ]around the throttle shafts . if bad ,the rpm will go up and down .the rear tbi is the one that is generaly bad .
When I did the valve seals I checked compression, cam lobes, springs and replaced the wires and plugs.
I changed the coolant sensor and IAC motors.
Check out the valve seal replacement article on my site that I did.
I know you went over to the Xfire forum for help but there is all sorts of rattles getting thrown out of cribs there at the moment (must be PST - Pre superbowl tension!!) so not really a good time to get decent responses.
Did you contact the guys at DCS or check out there site ? There is a tech article on the site that shows how to check the TB Shafts for wear - its pretty simple.
I know that most seem to think there are other issues here than the TB's (and I do not have the knowledge to judge one way or the other ) but at least you can check and will know if they need attention when you have gotten to the bottom of the wet plug and other issues.
http://www.crossfire.homeip.net/cftest/ change the wet plug with a dry plug, see what you have .high idle sounds like a vac leak .the rear throttle body shaft is the first to go bad .with your hand can you move the shaft ?spray wd-40 or carb spay around the shaft see if rpm goes up or down
