Baking soda and a very small amount of water works, and clean it up with a post brush.

Auto parts stores sell a spray to clean them up. It's best to remove them and clean the post and then the terminal with a brush and the solution.

When you are done with the cleanup, make sure you really wash the battery well and flood the top with lots of water to clear out any residual baking soda. Obviously, baking soda and the acid inside your battery are not a good thing. In addition, most auto parts stores sell a spray on battery top protectant, usually red, that helps keep this corrosion down.

Glad to help, when your done use a small amount of vasoline or grease on your battery post. Your connections will stay clean for about a year.
