The power window on the drivers side of my 78 is very slow and will not go up all the way unless the door is open. Even at that with as much upper adjustment as possible the window has a slight gap. I have puled the regulator to rebuild. The motor is fine. I am going to replace all rollers and clean the gear. While inspecting and cleaning the tracks it appears the upper track (the one that mounts to the window) has a twist / bow to it. Does anyone know if this track is suppose to be straight? Also I have read to both grease the new rollers or to leave them dry? which is best. Thanks
Is your track bowed or twisted? It is bowed to match the curvature of the door but if it's twisted that will cause a bind. As stated above, white lithium grease (not overdone) is the way to go. I can't say for sure on yours but on my 68 the tracks are adjustable back and forth and in and out to get the proper glass to weatherstrip fit.
My 78 drivers window sounds like a machine gun near top of travel...almost like a gear is stripped...and stops about 3/4" from the top....and tilted foward...
The track that the window is mounted to, should be straight. Adjustment on windows is a challenge to say the least. As far as that machine gun sound it is probably a striped regulator gear. Could also be a bad motor drive gear bushing. Good Luck
You should check the spring. The function of the wind up spring is to counter balance the weight of the window. If it is broken or not installed correctly, the motor has to fight the total weight of the window and will be very slow.
I ordered a good used track should be here in a couple of days. I will replace with all new rollers. Several years ago I had the machine gun sound. The gear on the regulator was badly worn. I replaced the gear and the problem went away. Thanks for all the help
More on 78 ...went out yesterday and tried window operation...now it works perfectly...so I'm thinking regulator mounting bolts are loose..(.pulling door panel this week...)
