I've read all the posts on upgrading an alternator and then upgrading the wire from the Alt + to the starter +. I understand all this and agree with all the posts. On my 75 with A/C I already have #8 wire or so it appears. My question is this. Can I hook up all the original wiring to the alternator and then just run an additional wire from the Alt+ to the Starter +. The Alternator is a chrome 135 Amp Load Boss purchased from Alterstart Systems Inc. out of Dallas Texas.
Yes, you can just run a jumper wire from the BAT terminal of the alternator to the starter lug.
If you have any problems with that alternator, return it, and install a CS130 or CS144. They are much better. The SI alternators were never designed to put out that kind of power, and most that are actually put in a situation where they put out over 100 amps end up frying.
The CS alternator swap is just as easy, and is a better unit in my opinion.
