Help. I am trying to get the ignition lock out of my 73 corvette. I've been trying but this thing just won't come out. the top wing part has already broken off. I can see the little tab that i am supposed to press but that wont do anything. Is it just supposed to slide out when u press that tab or do i have to screw in something that i can pull on.
You didn't mention what type of steering column that you have.
This is a picture of a standard (non-adjustable) column. The T&T column is very similar. Since both type columns use the same lock cylinder, the 1.75 inch dimension is exactly the same.
Press over at the right hand side of the slot as shown. The slot may have a thin die casting "skin" in the slot.
This is a standard column Jim. the top wing part has broken off and the key slides out so there's nothing that i can pull it with. Do you know if it just slides out when u press the tab. I can almost see the tab, but pressing it with a screwdriver won't do anything. Maybe something is broken inside ??
It should easily slide out when you press the tab. Make sure that you are pressing central on the right side of the slot. The tab sort of pivots on a thin wire so there is a chance that it can **** and hang up in the housing slot. The lock cylinder is ruined now anyway so grab it with a vicegrips or reach into the key slot with a hook type tool and try some additional pulling force.
