Default Power Steering Options

Greetings,
My 73 Coupe currently has manual steering. I am doing an engine change soon, and thought this would be an opportune time to upgrade to power steering. The upgrade kits run ~750.00 - 850.00. Corvette Central has this steering box that appears to be a custom cast Jeep style unit.

It's a little pricier but looks to be a bolt in and forget it upgrade. I like the 14:1 ratio (it's right in the middle between stock 16:1 and the Jeep 12:1 which I hear is quite sensitive.) I had a 78TA with the 14:1 WS6 box and the steering was awesome.

Anybody have any experience with this unit, or an opinion ( naw, none of them round here) on this vs a stock PS system?

It states: This kit is for use on cars that have power steering.....but It also says use manual linkage, so I'm assuming they just mean you need a pump!? Have to email them on that one.

thanks in advance.

If you'd be interested in a near-complete system from an '80, let me know. I have a complete steering system from my '80 somewhere in my garage, including rebuild kits for the control valve and cylinder. (The control valve was leaking a little before I switched to Steeroids.) The only parts missing would be a few nuts and cotter pins - I think.

Default keep the manual drag link

What they mean is you will be using the manual style drag link with their kit. The original power steering one on corvettes of this vintage has to be eliminated. If you want to go with this type of unit, compare it with the one from corvette steering. It has parts to eliminate the power steering part on the drag link. If your car has manual steering you won't need that as you are going to use the manual drag link.

I have a Corvette Steering Jeep Gerand Cherokee PS unit on my 70 and am very happy with it. Did not have to modify any stock parts to install.

The stock system works great if the box is in good shape. I had m box rebuilt by one of the experts here and I have ZERO slop in my steering. Great control and feedback.

BTW, people report various problems with header fitment when using the Jeep box due to the larger size. There is not much clearance as it is.

Thanks for the feedback gents. The corvette steering installation looks a little extensive. I have a month or so to decide while prepping the motor swap. i think I'll call CC monday and ask the many questions about their unit.
