What is this solid axle you are doing? Is it a kit? Is it cheaper than the toms setup? Looks like quite a project you have going!!

It is a kit from auto fab race cars. The whole thing 4 link, coilovers, wilwoods, strange nine inch with 35 spline axles, upgraded center(s housing), fabed housing, upgraded locker. rearend is rated at 1000-1200 hp according to strange. cost was $4300 plus tax and shipping.

they are the best for what i wanted. i could have gone aluminum but the comperssion is not high enough. they have a nice 280 intake runner. if i can, i want to go turbo next winter and they will work well with that too.

I'm not sure. I called autofab race cars and told them I wanted a kit. I had asked about the flange to flange length since I was going to weld it all up myself........... but then decided to let them do it so it was welded in a jig and set properly with out wasting a ton of my time. So I never got the flange to flange length but as far as I know it is close to stock length. had a guy measure the inside of rotor to inside of rotor and it was about 51-53 inches if I remember correctly.

Man those heads would be kind of small for a 509 IMHO. I bet that thing had awesome low end grunt.

I plan on going to work on it a bit later
and take some more pics. I do have some questions on things I found under the car too. There are some metal plates that look like they hold the seat and seat belt on the underside of the flood, can I get these some place? Mine are rotted pretty bad. If I can't, I can fab something up too.

Thanks for all the great replies.

thats an awesome project you've got, are you planning on tubbing it later? Imagine how awesome it would look with 20in wide tires in the back. I want to do something like that in the near future. Good luck and keep us updated with lots of photos, I'm curious how it turns out.

Yes you can get those seat belt plates at any corvette part supplier. Paragon has good ones. BUT you'll be wanting to run a 5-6 point harness so you may not use those mounts anyway. Plan it out first prior to buying any stock brackets. Sounds like a rollcage will be in your future too.

is it only seatbelt plates, or does it hold down the seat too?

Depends which ones your talking about. Check out your AIM.
I don't want to start making assumptions from my experience on my 68.

How's the project coming. Any problems with the rear set up? How far have you gotten with it so far? More pics?
