Alignment, steering valve adjust, brake line collapsed, air in calipers, bushings gone. How many others can we think of.
Lift the front of the car to get the wheels off the ground and look for play in the wheel bearings. Had the same issue and it was a wheel bearing going. If you don't have play in the wheel bearings, then start checking bushings and steering linkage assembly. If you have to get into the linkage assembly, it really helps to have someone manipulate the steering wheel while you inspect everything. Sure sounds like a wheel bearing though. Touch back with the forum when you find it.

Exactly the same here on our 78. Replaced the steering control valve with a complete kit (valve, hoses and ram), she now steers perfect.
Left front caliper was leaking. Put 4 re-built calipers, pads and new rotors. Now stops straight and true.
Total cost of parts from Zip-Products (steering kit) and O'Reilly's came to about $900.

Is "annie" the name you gave your vette?
So what part of that part swap actually fixed the problem? Clearly a leaking caliper is a problem but what was actually wrong with the steering valve, hoses, or the ram?
I had close to the same problem, i ended up having a leaking caliper and a bad bearing, rough week.... take a good look at the spindle if your just gonna change the bearing though, i blew up another bearing trying to use the same spindle, possibly user error though.....

The caliper was the cause of the diving to the right when braking. The brakes solved that problem.
The worn out/leaking steering valve just compounded the problem along with making normal driving a bit interesting. Did both jobs at the same time to get all the safety related items behind me.
sorry for the delay in response to annies problems as i have been working alot of overtime and haven't had a chance to work on her. last week i had a chance to go to work on her. annie is back on the road. it seems all her problems were the result of sticking calipers. after a set of new calipers, rotors, and pads she is running smooth. well as smooth as a 30 year old all original suspension can. thankyou all for your advice.
