I've rebuilt my shifter and installed it. I bought the shifter alignment tool (looks like a flat piece of metal that you stick into the slots of the levers). However, I'm trying to figure out how you actually put the tool into the shifter once it's installed. I can't even see the slot it goes into and I've tried inserting it from the top of the console down, but also can't see it. What's the trick !? Thanks
i didnt even use that stupid thing when i changed 1. just have the trans in neut, and line all the levers up on the shifter in the neut position...and install your rods. hit mine right the first time
Put about a 90 degree bend (or maybe slightly less) about an inch from one end and slide the tool up on the driver's side and insert it into the slot with the rods disconnected and the shifter in neutral. Then connect the rods (make sure the transmission is in neutral too).
I actually ended up doing mine without the tool by trial and error by having someone in the car sliding the shifter from left to right and telling me when there was no resistance or catch going all the way from the left (with the lockout t pulled up) to the right while I moved the linkage arms slightly. The tool works, but it's hard to see and work up in there. Specially when you have dual exhaust. If you were able to install the shifter yourself, it shouldn't be any trouble to insert the tool, though. Post how it's going.
