Smoking Pipe
Here's an interesting question. My 68 smokes from the passenger side pipe when I coast down a hill or down-shift through the gears to first gear. 7 plugs look great,#6 plug comes out oily and black. Otherwise the car runs strong. Dist and wires are new,vacuum gage is steady.I'm thinking a bad intake valve guide seal, but could one bad seal pass enough oil to coat the plug? Thought #2, an internal intake manifold leak? Vacuum gage shows no leaks. Am I missing something else? Thanks for any answers.

Spray a little water in the carb as the engine is running. Don't over do it, and give it a few squirts every ten to fifteen seconds.
Put white paper towels down on the ground under both sides of the exhaust when you do this, and watch for all the crap that blows out.
There may be some carbon and deposits built up around your valves. The water / steam will help dislodge this crap and shoot it out of the exhaust.
I tried it a few times and was always amazed at what came out.
