thanks for the fast reply. i've got the factory side pipes on it now. they sound good look good but like the looks of hookers better but I just spent 2 years putting L88 flares body work and paint dont want to see it melt away.
Welcome to the forum. Lots of guys have side pipes..I too have Hooker side mount headers and pipes, and I have not had any paint issues. I don't recall the heat hurting anything but people's legs when they get out and forget that pipe is HOT.
Check out Bangkok Dean's heatshields made just for Vettes at www.steelshields.com. No more medium-well calves! Got 'em on my Hooker 4" sides and love 'em. A real must for passengers, especially if you have kids/grandkids around.
Anyone get (Hooker tattoos) from side exhaust that has been jet hot coated in and out?
Just asking cause I added a set on my 69 frame off project
I have never burned myself getting in or out, but most people that have ridden with me forget my warning to them and get burned. Usually only once, and he remember every time after that. Now, I have burned myself on the pipes, but it was a slip in the garage when the engine was running. The floor was wet from morning dew and I was walking up to the engine too fast. My foot slid under, and the outside of my calf hit the pipe. Left a very good burn, but no scar.
I think there are too many variables for one "right" answer to this issue. Engine size, town vs. highway driving, tube diameter, climate, and so on. The one right solution are the heat shields. My jet hot sterling pipes burned a friend once before I decided once was enough.
I have hooker side pipes on my 73. I do have some blistering of the paint just behind the front tires where the tubes come out from under the car. This is a clear coat paint job. When I had a emron paint job there was no paint blistering. So I think it depends on the type of paint.
I like the look of those but personally don't feel it's worth the price
