Default cross-shaft mount position?

I have a 78 corvette, automatic. I'm changing it out to a four speed. I have all the parts, the cross-shaft bracket that holds one end of the z-bar is a weld on piece. I need to know where to weld it on the frame. Does anyone have measurements or a diagram that shows the position in relation to the brake proportioning valve mount or the #1 body mount? The frame diagrams I've seen show it, but not an exact position.

Thanks for any help,

Kipp

square it up with the ball stud on the engine block, put the whole thing together, assembled and look at it from top and bottom and it is easy to see where it belongs

That method worked for me. If you are very careful, you can weld it from the top. It is pretty tough to weld it from the side. However, I only used the bracket for about a month and then went with hydraulic release bearing.

Default Try this!

I just did my 78 last summer & instead of welding the bracket, I used a bracket that they used standard pn the 80 & 81. Here is the website:

I assembled the cross shaft, connected it to the bal on the block and used a small square to align. This located the spot on the frame where the bracket went. Center punched & drilled the holes. Works fine.

Thanks for the suggestions! I had the 80-81 bracket on an order from Paragon, they noticed it was the wrong one for my year. I was then called and forgot why I had chosen that one, and changed to the 78 bracket.

I guess mabye I'll send this one back and get the 80-81 bracket. I was planning on removing the master cylinder and welding from the top. Seemed like a pain, but I couldn't see any other way.

Here is a link to Corvette Central's web site. It has a blow-up picture of the cross shaft assembly including the bracket. Not much help locating the bracket, but it gives you an idea. If you have access to a GM AIM for your 78 it would help.
