I usually hang out in the C1/C2 section, but I know that some of you C3 guys have Ram Jet engines in your cars so I thought this information might be of interest to you. I have had a Ram Jet 350 engine in my wife’s ’62 since 2002. The engine originally had an MEFI3 controller, but I installed the MEFI4 upgrade in March 2006. The MEFI4 system adds an O2 sensor and IAT sensor and is the system currently being shipped on new Ram Jet engines. Ever since the upgrade I have had a problem with the engine in that, under certain operating conditions, the engine would not return to idle when the throttle was closed. I have now solved the problem and thought some of you might be interested in the solution.
Here is a web page that gives the complete story: http://www.carols62.com/ramjet
Even if you are not having any problems with your Ram Jet engine, you may be interested in reading the last few paragraphs on the scanning/tuning software for the MEFI controller.

This sounds like a problem I have with my TPI engine! However Im not dealing with anything in the stock nature. My problem occurs while down shifting and making a stop, as I down shift the gears and get to a stop, It seems the IAC is still controlling the idle, In my case its high like yours! If I rev the engine it may come down, maybe not. It sucks withe the 4 spd I dont ave to give it any gas to get moving, Just let out the clutch! If anybody knows how I could fix this let me know!

Hi Charles,
Assuming the programming is similar to the early 90's ECM; would you be willing to share the so-called BIN for the MEFI-4?
Julian
I would be glad to share the original Ram Jet 350 BIN file with anyone. If you have software that will tune/read/display the MEFI4a BIN file, you could look at the parameters and make changes to your file, but I think you will find that the Ram Jet MEFI stuff is pretty much incompatible with anything else GM has put in any of it's cars. Perhaps there is some software out there somewhere that will do a conversion, but I am unaware of it.

Are you running a VSS? TPI really wants to know if you are moving or not. If you are I would adjust the TPS if it is an early adjustabe style and I would clean the IAC valve and passages.
Charles,
I'll send you an email to the address on the website you posted above, "charlie at....."
I should be able to see if I can decipher the BIN quickly enough. I run my ramjet 350 with a 730 ECM, so perhaps I can at least use the VE and spark tables? Thanks...
Well i dont know about ve tables but it does have spark tables
I am glad you got the cruise control fixed on your mefi charles.
I am the guy in florida that chatted with ya via email with my boat injected powered silverado.
Charles, Glad you were able solve your problem the correct way without having to jury rig that IAC. I remember your post awhile back describing your dilemma. I can't remember the details, but I think I mentioned MSD and OBDII-mefiburn to you or your friend at the time??? Anyway glad you found Bob. He is great guy and very helpful. We purchased the full up pro version of Mefi burn about a year ago here at Competition Marine for all the MEFI's used on boats. What version XDF MEFI4b file are you using with tunerpro? I choose to jump to the Accel Gen VII, but still play with the the old MEFI 3 on the bench that was originally on my RamJet 502. The engine runs soooo much better now that I have a proper tune and a larger TB.
