Default Alternator Bracket will it work?

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...1&autoview=sku
I know some forum members have used this bracket and was hoping I could get some info. It states (Brackets are designed to fit standard height valve covers) I have Tall Valve Covers, but I think I have seen it used with tall. Anyone know for sure.

Thanks

I had an issue with my alternator being really close to my stock valve covers (with stock bracket). It turned out I needed a longer belt for the alternator. It seems that the Summit bracket has plenty of adjustability to work with tall valve covers, if the belt is long enough. Good luck!

rosslato:

Nice set up! Could you give us the rest of the details? What power steering pump bracket are you using? And are you running two groove pulleys with the alternator belt on the inside groove and the power steering on the outer groove?

Thanks Cris

Do you still need the upper "hockey stick" with that setup?

i'm using the stock power steering brkt and the 2 grove pulleys w/the alt belt inside n the pow steering on the outside. you will have to use spacers/shims to get things lined up but no biggie

rosslato, thanks

Does the power steering belt only go to the crank pulley or does it also go around the water pump pulley?

I have the same bracket on my BB. It has worked fine. Very nice value for the money. One word of advice though, they have it available in 2 finishes (the same price). Go with the chrome finish. I have it in the satin finish and don't like it very much. I was expecting more of a raw aluminum or brushed aluminum but it is a little different. It absorbs dirt, grease, oil, etc and can be a little hard to keep clean.

Well I ordered it today before reading this post. I did notice it was satin but I was just planning on polishing it. I don’t like the chrome plated stuff and am trying to get polished aluminum for everything. Do you know if yours is coated with anything?

It does not appear to be coated. And I don't know how well it will polish. It has a very different finish to it. It's natural but appears to be some kind of aluminum-moly (mix).

The upper bracket looks like a "J" or "hockey stick" on '69. I saw the Summit installation PDF instructions and it replaces that.

I used this summit bracket on my stroked SBC with tall valve covers, I had to use a longer than stock belt and had to purchase a longer adjuster rod with rod-ends , wasn't cheap. but the set-up works fine. I coated mine with Diamond Clear from Eastwood.
