When I bought my 79, one of the problems it had is that the body mounted "latch to latch" connecting cable is broken. Only the driver's side latch operates when you pull the lever inside the car to open the hood. Apparently instead of fixing the problem, Bubba removed the hood mounted "hook" (wrong name I know) that mates to the catch so the hood could still be opened after it was closed. Bubba was nice enough to give me the box with the "hook" and it's shim/s however. I bought the correct cable, but I'm sort of scratching my head without having anything to reference how it was installed originally. Could anyone help me out? Maybe some pics?
That cable simply routes from the driver's side latch to the passenger side latch, in that bundle of wires and vacuum tubing behind the engine along the firewall. It's not pretty, just a straight shot as the crow flies.
Once you get the hook back on, take a few openings and closings without latching it to make sure it's adjusted properly. If you actually latch it while they are out of adjustment you'll have a HARD time getting it back open.

Yes it is a simple fix. The gromet on the drivers side of the cable screws into the bracket next to the hood spring on ther drivers side. That is usuall what breaks. Ask me how I know....LT
