I recently got my 1st C3. It’s a 1971 LS5, 4-speed. It recently developed a small leak and need a little help identifying the source.
The leak seems to be coming from a box that is approximately 12”x12” in size (underneath the car). This box is located on the passenger side, approximately under the firewall area of the car.
90% positive its the windshield washer fluid container... Very discrete I know... At least its not an "important" leak. If it has a hose coming out of it routed up to your windshield you will know... My 69, however, had an inoperative windshield washer so the box was there but the hose wasn't run...

hahahahaha, a small leak on a C3, consider yourself lucky, but seriously congrats on your purchase, oh, and without pictures or the color of the fluid, i would guess the heater core is the culprit
Thanks guys, this is great information. Next couple questions:
How do I post pictures on this forum. It doesn't look like I have the permissions to do this.
If this is the heater core, is this a tough thing to work on? Is getting a replacement easy?
It's kind of a PITA. If you don't use your heater, you can just bypass it for now by running the supply heater hose to the return nipple, or remove both hose fittings (on the block) and replace with pipe plugs.
Even though you didn't mention what kind of fluid was leaking, I have to agree that most likly considering the area your talking about, it's coolant. Hopefully you can trace it to a leaking heater hose. If it's not that, than as has been said, "good luck". Its going to be the heater core. A royal P.I.T.A. If you don't NEED heat you might want to just rout the 2 hose together and by-pass the heater core at least for a while. Doing this would also tell you if it's the heater core if the leak stops when you do this.
