My drain a couple years ago was the hood light. The mercury switch was not turning it off when the hood was closed.

Default Quite by accident

Well I have discovered what was draining the battery, and sorrowfully quite by accident. It is/was the heater/ac fan! It has been sitting about a week, and I went out this afternoon to see if by chance it wanted to start. I looked at the clock and it was still running, which is a miracle; I opened the door and had courtesy lights, so I thought what the hell..... Got the keys and it fired right up! I suppose this is okay, as long as I remember to turn the fan off; I hadn't used it much in the past, obviously; useless in the summer when it is so hot, not necessary in the winter due to only sporatic driving, and the 'natural' heat when warmed up.....The fan must have been Bubba-ized....

Buy a battery tender and keep it on until you find the drain and fix it. That's what I'm doing.

Had the same symptom in my 72 for a couple years. The heater/AC fan would not turn off when I turned the car off. Sometimes it would, sometimes it wouldn't. Made no sense but l just disconnected the power to the fan and forgot about it. Until, as I previously posted, the battery began to die. Once I located and corrected the short in the alternator the fan operation went back to normal. It was as if the fan circuit was operating as some type of electrical path for the alternator short.
