What is going on here? I bought a water pump from ecklers. I installed it and there is a 3/8 inch gap now between the the two a/c compressor mounts. Then I put the old one back on and the gap goes away. So I compared the two by setting them both on a level surface and I can see that the new one seems to be thicker in the monting areas. I can also tell that it would put the alternator out of alignment as well. Is this a case of cheap chineese crap? It came in a ac delco box but doesnt have any gm markings on it. Is there some one who can rebuild my original water pump?

GM used a long nosed pump & also a short nosed pump; if memory serves, the OEM pump was long nosed on Vettes but the shorter pump was on other applications. Don't know why Eck would have sold you the wrong one but that's what it sounds like to me.
It is a small block pump. Its just that the areas where it mounts is a little thicker then the original which makes the accessories that bolt to the pump out of alignment by 1/4-3/8 of an inch. Corvette America carries a rebuilt with the same casting number 813, looks like that is what I need.
i think you should have went to napa..i wouldn't recommend anything from ecklers even if we had to buy all our eqpt online..they screwed me and i will call them again when they are the only place left. in fact i'll sell my vette when i have to depend on them. your gonna pay for your pump twice just in UPS charges..they probably make more on delivery charges than they do on sales
