Default 82 trans removal

I can't get at the top 2 tranny-to- engine bolts on my 82. I'm sure many here can do it their sleep. I lifted the engine/trans a little, but it's still too tight to access. It seems like lowering the assembly and working from the bottom wouldn't be much better. I'm off to buy some more tools (good excuse to spend $) and then give it another go.

Also, how far aft does the transmission need to move until the shaft is out?
Thanks for any suggestions!

Assume Auto Trans, Should Be Able To Get Them From Top With Engine Sitting Level.

I have not pulled a transmision out of my vette yet but most automatics I have pulled the easiest way is to lower the back of the engine a little and get plenty of extentions and a universal joint and you shouldbe able to break them loose. I usually use 3/8th drive ratchet and extentins.

I take it you have already removed the driveshaft, right??

You need the engine/trany in the normal position to remove top two bolts.

I have a 24" long 3/8" extension. I added this to a 12" one and got to tehm from the bottom.

You need to take out the 3 torque converter bolts, then the tranny will drop almost straight down.

re-connect the battery, and bump over the engine until you can get to all three bolts.

A $50 transmission jack from Harbor Freight is a GREAT investment!
