Once you get the wheel/lock plate/signal switch out of the way there is one screw that holds it in. Its real easy. You should be able to figure it out with very basic mechanical skills

Run down to autozone and borrow their lock plate removing tool. That spring is pretty stout. Makes it a lot easier to remove the clip. You will have to lock down the telescoping rod to depress the locking plate with the tool. Follow Jim's papers as linked above and you cant go wrong. He is the specialist on our columns

What he said. You can actually do it by hand if you have really strong thumbs and a helper, but I don't recommend it. It does work in a pinch though.
