Default Top End Kit troubles

I have decided that i am just going to order a top end kit from somewhere for my 1980. I have been going nuts trying to match parts, and am just going to order a kit to get it done with. I have a 1980 and for hood clearance issues i have been told to steer clear of the Edelbrock performer RPM. I cant find a distributer for Edelbrock's Performer kit without EGR and with the Performer intake (not RPM intake). Are there any other kits out there that are good, from brodix or somewhere. even if they dont come with a cam, i can match that. I am a bit overwhelmed by all the parts available out there, and just want this build to work right without much hassle. Thanks all,
Steve

I don't know if this will help you but , on my 72 I have a edelbrock Performer ( Not the RPM nor EPS ), part# 21011 ( polished ) with a edelbrock Performer 600 cfm, square-flange, electric choke (non-EGR) Carb # 14054 ( EnduraShine )... I know the # 1400 carb will work too and give you a little more performance but it's Manual Choke. I also have a :

MSD Ignition Pro-billet Corvette Distributor, PN 6572
MSD 6A controller with ignition cabling
MSD Blaster 2 ignition coil

I used to have a Weiland 8004 intake manifold with a Deman Carb. I love the new set up. And it ran great write out of the box... Better then ever. I still plan to get the carb tuned when I put on the side pips. Anyway this set up works realy good for me in my 72 with a 350. Motor has been rebuilt with 30 over piston and a mild cam. So not to much high permormance stuff on it... YET. Here are a few pics of the set up. I do have a stock hood. I was very limited on air cleaners. The one I have will fit and on yours the drop plate base should work just fine on yours. you have a little more clearence then I do. Good Luck and I hope this is helps some.

Look at AFR website. They have several dyno test combos that may help you with your selection.
Good luck

What air cleaner are you going to run? My 81 came with an Edelbrock Performer RPM, Carter AFB carb (same as Edelbrock), and a drop base 14" chrome air cleaner with about a 3" element. I don't have any hood clearance issues, though with a stock air cleaner it probably would. Im using a stock HEI distributor. I have the stock 81 hood too BTW.
