I have seen a few pictures of and heard about electrically operated headlight systems. Is anyone familiar with these and if so is there a product name or source available.
Sick of vacume issues.
Thanks
Jim
I was thinking about changing to electrically operated headlights when my vacuum system was full of weird problems, but now after investing $60 for seal and hose kits, I totally changed my mind! .. the work was very easy and straight forward and my headlights and wiper door are working like champs. Honestly, after just doing that, I cant find any reason for changing a very good vacuum system to electricals.
I think you'd be far better of just fixing the vacuum problems of your system. While hardly considered high tech, this system is dependable and has work for years on many Vettes. The system on my '76, which I bought new, has for the most part worked flawlessly except for 1 $25 part that needed replacement. You are more than likely looking at some serious $ for parts and labor to replace your system with motors, etc. Just my 2 cents.
The biggest "problem" with vacuum operated lights/wipers is the FEAR factor. It's kind of like being afraid of the Boogeyman when you're a kid....just don't deal with it and make it go away.
Everyone who invests $25 in a vacuum gauge and $15 in a vacuum diagram and diagnostic paper for their year car finds that fixing the vacuum system is not really that big of a deal. You could fix major problems with your vacuum system and never come close to the cost and trouble of modifying your car for electric headlights. When the vacuum lights work correctly, who would know the difference from their operation?
