I found quite the opposite when I converted my '70- the auto trans hole was a lot larger than it needed to be for the 4-speed shift boot. I made a small aluminum cover to bridge the gap between the existing cutout and the attach flange of the new boot.
I'm pretty new to the vettes so I'll see how things pan out. I think I may go with the M21 gearbox but here in Australia we have Tremec 5 or 6 speed boxes which can be made to fit in most cars. It will also depend on the diff ratio. Maybe like your 70 model the floor pan would be very similar to the 69.
We do have some corvette supplies here but if I can't get the shift, console etc. I will source it from the states. Thanks for the help.
May be wrong but I believe all 68-75 will have the large shifter hole that can go either way. When the metal floors started in 76, then the hole was more specialized.
