Default how will open headers affect?

I Got My Car Running Again And Until I Get To The Muff Shop I Have Been Playing Around With Open Headers. It Doesnt Seem To Have Any Low End Torque Until 3500 Then It Comes Alive. Is There A Technical Explanation Why That Is?

Too little backpressure, possibly reversion...the exhaust ports aren't being as efficiently scavenged. A well designed exhaust system literally pulls the exhaust out...without it, at lower velocity there is a tendency for exhaust gases to be pulled back in. I'm sure someone here has a more scientific explanation, but that is basically what is happening.

uncapped headers cause the motor to lean out. I usually went a couple of jet sizes bigger. you can back down the timing a couple of degrees.

All motors can be tuned to make the most power with uncapped headers. I couldn't stand driving around like that....... Way to much noise and vibration. I've driven to the drag races with just my collector extensions in place and i was nearly deaf when I got there.
