Default Power steering "growl"

Just thought I would pass this along....My power steering had the usual growling sound indicating it needed bleeding, but I couldn't get it to stop. I found the rag joint very deteriorated, so I replaced it. Guess what? The growl stopped. I think the rag joint was so sloppy that it was allowing the power components to vibrate against the hydraulic pressure. Any thoughts?

One function of the flexible coupling is to isolate hydraulic noise from being transmitted directly up the steering column and into the driver compartment. You can visualize that the typical integral power steering gear (compared to the Corvette linkage booster system) has the hydraulic valve right on the end of the gear next to the input shaft. So you would think that the flexible coupling has more to do with isolation in those type systems compared to the C3.

But the C3 hydraulic valve has metal to metal connections (i.e. valve, pitman arm, pitman shaft, rack, *****, worm shaft, flex coupling) that could transmit hydraulic noises.
