The last few days I have been having a little trouble getting the key to unlock the ignition. I have tried graphite lube but it hasn't helped. Sometimes the switch works fine and sometimes it jams and Won't turn at all. I have the original 69 keys and they look pretty good. I have a duplicate also. since the problem started ALL of the keys react the same way. Has anyone had this happen? What did you do? FYI '69 with tilt/tele wheel.
I had a similar problem recently. It was not the key portion but the switch down the column that was worn and jammed on occasion.
You can kind of test to see if it is the problem by reaching under and finding the switch and press on it or squeeze it and turn the key. If it works better or gets worse that is probably the culprit.
The GM lock cylinder (1969-1978) part number is 20071252.
If you need it the GM T&T ignition switch (1969-1982) is 1990116.
Terry Rudy's websight is back. For directions on how to replace the lock cylinder and/or the ignition switch, go to: http://www.corvettefaq.com and look under Suspension and Steering:
