"why recreate the wheel"
I am in the process of making a 69 corvette into a healthy street car. I wonder what are the optimal tire/wheel combinations I can use.
My current set up is total stock suspension configuration (std trailing arms) and full L88 type body flairs (front and rear ).
Any cool pictures?
Thanks a bunch.
Jim
If you're thinking of 15s - check out Panic's or Stan's combination (Roadracevett - spelling?) Try searching "minilites" I think.
For 17s:Fronts 17x9.5 with 4 to 4.5 backspace and a 275/40 tire. Rears 17x11 with 4 to 4.5 backspace and a 315/35 tire. I went with 4.5 backspace front and rear but the car is going to be built around the wheels and tires - meaning the flares aren't on yet and the suspension is VB mono front and rear.
For 18s:Front 18x9.5 with 4.5 backspace and a 275/35 tire. Rears 18x12 with 5" backspace and a 335/30 tire.
A note of caution this info will get you close. It seems all these cars are a little different. Some guys claim to get a little rubbing on the inside in the front and in the rear parking brake cable brackets and sway bars sometimes interfear. The suspension you use will also make a difference. As far as hitting the fenders looking at your picture I think you'll be safe with what I gave you. You may have to be carefull on the inside with parking brake or rear sway bar. Good luck with whatever you decide.
