I wouldn't do anything until I verified the pressures weren't within specs. You can check the pressures in a couple of minutes. If you don't have the gauges, take it to someone. You can spend many hours pulling things apart, particularly the evap box, and accomplish nothing if it's fairly clean.

Just power hungry, not bad. If they were bad they would not have been used by John Deere, Mercedes, etc. into the late 80s. The A6 WAS the best in the business at that time. How many Chrysler compressors from that era are still in use today, or for that matter-while better-even the big Tecumseh compressors on Fords?

I know this is a few days late but does your car like mine have a valve on water line to heater core, ie; temp. control?Mine was leaking real bad so I unscrewed hose punchlock on intake and installed a 1/4 turn ball valve with male threads on one side and female on other. Then put screwed punchlock into valve and attached hose. Now car is cooler driving without having to run air with valve shut. On cool mornings it only takes a second to open hood to open valve to allow hot water to heater. The little bit of hot water in heater core will warm up cold air from air conditioner.Just a small bit from my experience.
