Default A Start to my Problem

I thought I was going to be on the road early this year. Now I'm going to spend the day in the garage and miss a nice sunny march day! My problem is my car won't start. It turns over fine, plenty of juice, I've got fuel but when you release the key she just dies.

I suppose I'll start tracing back the electrical system. Last year I replaced the ignition switch and thought I had it licked.

Any suggestions to save me some time?

Start with the basics. Got fuel? Got spark?

I've got fuel but I only have 2 volts at the positive terminal on the coil with the ignition in the on position. I've tested other locations and have a good strong 12 volts everywhere.

Sounds like the resistance wiring [in the harness] is defective. I have a '71 and I think that 70's and later had it built into the wiring (if standard points ignition). Check your wiring diagram for circuit leading to the coil.

I changed the resistor wire from the ignition to the coil a few years ago. Could it be that it's not making contact in the ignition switch? The tolerance on that thing is very minimal.

Turns out it was a break in the circuit between the ignition switch and the coil, right at the wiring hub to the fuse panel. Not an easy find or fix.
Run a new line and all is well.
