speedo cable location

Ive got a bouncy speedo in my 72, so ive decided to try and lube the cable and see if it corrects the problem. My question is where on the transmission is the cable located? Is it easy to get to? thanks...Don

Speedo drive is on passenger side of a 4-speed. A keeper is held in by one 7/16 bolt. The cable gets removed at the speedo.

In my experience a bouncing speedo is usually the result of a lube or other issue at the speedo end. Also lubing from top allows the grease to run downhill when it heats up. I know that makes it a tougher job. I'm not sure what disassembling the trans end will do unless you simply wish to verify it's intact at that end before taking the dash apart.

i was wondering if its possible to remove the cable from the sheath, lube it and reinsert. Seems it would be easier from the bottom, but have never done it. thanks for the advice. Don
