hi i put this in the general and got some good help but need a little more new to this site and new to corvette a frend wants to sell me his 68 convert 327/300 red red 4/sp 56 k numbers matching? what are some things to look for and whats a fair price thank you for the help
Look for rust in the floor pans, on the #2 body mounts behind the kick panels, look for rust on the frame kickup area in front of the rear wheels. Drive it and see how it handles, how many miles on the suspension, drive train?
What kind of shape is the body in?
A car that old could easily be cheesecloth. No way I could say what its worth without actually seeing it.
Do some searching and see what cars with cpmprable descriptions are going for. See if one of the guys in here is local and can look it over for you
If this is your first Corvette I'd suggest that you have someone who knows 68s look at the car with you. I don't think you can learn enough , quickly enough, to make an informed decision. Even if you had to pay someone it would be worth it. You really need to know a lot about a car to know what it's worth, especially if it's a nice car, not just a pile of trouble on 4 wheels.
Regards,
Alan
PS: Remember, this is a 40 year old car, If it really is matching numbers it could be a real find.
