Default th350 question

pardon my lack of knowledge but could somebody explain to me in laymans terms what exactly the wire going to the transmission does? I understand the kickdown cable running from the carb to downshift. I have no computer anymore. was thinking of upgrading to a 200 tranny with the overdrive.

Pretty sure on a TH350 the wire is for the backup lights

and how exactly does the lockup tq work."still am clueless" the backup light switch is on the shifter console.

I don't know this from experence but have done a lot of research. Since I am about to put a 2004r into my 78. !. don't need a computer. the wiring for the converter lockup runs off the brake light wire. this will automaticly lock the converter in OD and reduce RPM and heat and on some tranny You can manually lockup 2 & 3 gear but I don't think that really apply to Vettes. The wire running to the carb is the TV cable and controls how and when the car shifts. see www.bowtieoverdrives.com/catalog/catalog.php

I think that only 81 [and maybe 80] C3's with THM350 tranny had lockup converters. They are more fuel efficient because they had an internal clutch that hydraulically linked the converter pump and turbine together when they reached approximately the same speed. The computer determined when the L/U feature was activated or dropped. 700r and 200r tranmissions are overdrive units and also had L/U feature.
