msd , hei super coil,good upgrades?
aloha,anyone using any of these products,msd 6al or others ..and the accel hei super coil? are these worth adding to my vette? any input aprieciated.thanx

Don't know if they really add much in the lines of performance on a stock motor but I think they're kind of a safety blanket for the ignition system.

I've got an Accel HEI Super Coil on my car. The one that fits over the plug wires, making it a pain to get inside the dist. for adjustments. Didn't feel any change when I swaped the standard coil in while I was doing adjustments to the mechanical advance on the dist.
Upgrades to the ignition are pretty low priority for me right now since my current system seems to be operating correctly. When I do move up again I'll look at ignition control boxes that control advance and a matching coil.

If your ig. is working fine it does not need. All the ig. does is ignite the mixture, it is the fast burning of the mixture that makes power. Most of you only need an Accel cap & rotor w/ good spiral core wires like Moroso & a spare ig. module. Keep wires 5 & 7 well separated.

MSD makes a kit for the HEI. It's the 6AL box, Blaster coil and a new harness that replaces the HEI module inside the distributor. It works really well especially above 4,500rpm. The more stock your engine and heads are the more you'll get from it. Stock type engines can use all the help they can get.
