'77 Starter keeps running after KO
I've been putting my car back together and one of the new "features" that is has is that when I turn the key to start, the engine turns longer than the key is on start. I don't recall if that was happening before or not, but the rotor on the distributor usually shows 180 to 360 rotation in this case.
However, a few times I've not been able to stop the engine cranking until I pulled the cable at the battery. I didn't make any other changes to make it go from the above to the ongoing crank. I did remove and reinstall the starter recently and the new thing this time was I hooked the bracket up to the back end of the starter for support (it wasn't attached before).
I'm not even sure where to start with this little gem, so I hope you have some ideas.
Brian.

I also agree. You are getting power to the starter after you are releasing the key. It generally is one of the two above problems.

Well, I can use the tried and true method ...if it is "stuck" I can tap the solenoid to see if that cuts it out ...should help me determine if the key switch or the solenoid is the culprit.
Here's hoping it's the easier of the two
