My 81 will not start. I put a Holly carb on it in the spring and it worked fine until last weekend. Now, it will turn over but will not crank. Last weekend was the frist cold spell we have had. I have gotten it to start and it runs fine after it is started but if you let it seat for an hour or so it will not start again. I am pretty sure it is the carb. Any suggestions?
You will need to be alittle more specific" it will turn over but will not crank" What do you mean it turns over but doesnt fire? Is there gas getting to the carb ? are you getting spark? Hard to tell what is wrong Please let us know so we can help .

I am pretty sure that it is getting fire from the plugs. It has started. I also smell gas, and had a flame out of the carb. It only did it once. I am not sure what else to try. The engine is turning over it is just not starting. What should I try?
1- Gas at the carb and operation of the choke. Take off the air cleaner and check in the air horn. Open the throttle at full position and check if the choke flap close (on a cold engine) and also check if the accelerator pump get gas in the carb. If so, there is gas to your carb and the choke operate. Have someone crank the engine and play with the position of the choke flap.
2- Spark at the spark plug. Unplug one spark plug wire and put it on an old spark plug in the connector with the other end on the engine. Have someone start it and check for spark.
