I have a '75 L82 and along the rear of the hood there appears to be what looks like an intake louver. The underside of the hood appears to have internal venting to get fresh air to the air cleaner.
Is this grille a functioning device i.e. does vacuum or electric make something open and close to operate a louver or baffle? There appears to be wiring to something....
If something here is functional, how do I confirm it is working and what makes it open and close to begin with.
I'm running the stock air cleaner, if that makes a difference....
If I am not mistaken (I haven't looked since I am not using the cowl induction), there is a door behind the plastic mesh. When you floor it or nail the throttle, there is an electric switch on your accelator that opens the door. If you look along your hood you will see, I think 2 wires that run together along the left side of your hood.
If I were you, I would remove the door.. Maybe even capping off the 2 snorkles, but I would atleast remove the door that way it always works. It may be electrical, but unless you are at WOT, I doubt it works. Reason being is because the TH400 has an electrical kickdown and the tranny wont kick down into 2nd unless I am at WOT. If I am a hair shy of WOT, most likely it wont kickdown. So I say remove the door.
It Is Electrical And The Connecter Ties In At The Hood Around The Front Driver Side Corner. There Should Be A Plug Coming Out Of Wiring Harness Exactly Above Driver Side Headlight Actuater. Hope This Helps
Remove the panel and you will see a door operated by a solenoid. Remove the door and get fresh air all the time. It is a little louder which is why GM only made it open at WOT.
