Most companies really only sell the middle 3 mains.

Is there any real value in investing in the front and rear mains as well?

Front and rear only load 1/2 as much as the centers.

My new Motown block ( for my 427ci ) has all five caps four bolt and billet steel. The center three caps area also splayed.

Needless to say it will handle some power and probably more than I need right now. I am thinking about what I might need in the future The only downside id finding a pan that fits. Most pan will hit the cap on the front

The Katech 500ci Gen 4 small block sounds like fun. That will definitely do the trick.....

Of course the 6 bolt mains and cross bolts, the billet mains are sort of extra.

I really wish I had started a Gen 3/4 motor, instead of this 383.

There is something else about billet mains. Because they are made of different metal than the block they ( the block and the billet caps ) expand with heat differently, supposedly it is harder on the main bearings

I can make a 454ci out of mine eventually

Some people prefer nodular iron caps...... due to the different thermal expansion !

For my feeling you should aligne-bore the mains with the block heated!
