Default turn switch electrical

i've got a 72 t&t column that had the switch wires cut as they exit the housing. i've got a turn switch (unknown year) that i'd like to install in the column. by the way, the 72 switch has a orange colored piece that moves with the signal arm, the other switch is the same color as the other parts. thought it might help date the switch.
the donor switch has three wires that the 72 column doesn't have. a brn that goes to plug A on the connector, a gray(?) that goes to plug B, and a blk-wht that goes to C. the gray is common, and the other two make contact only when the turn signal is shifted to the right or left. what's it for???
also, just as a point of interest, both have a pink and blk that make contact inside the column with two finger like projections. what are these for?

Are you sure the donor switch is out of a Corvette? All the C-3 diagrahms show 10 wires in the harness to the sig switch. The black wire is likely for the horn.

The extra three wires are for cars with cornering lights. As long as the rest of the switch matches your original (i.e. a long steel post for the turn signal lever to screw into) you are good to go.

It just might be possible that the plastic "harmonica" connector on your new switch might not snap into your instrument panel harness. (Even though the connectors look very similar.) If you have that problem, just swap the connectors between the switches.

Use the end of a paper clip or a very fine screwdriver tip to reach into the connector along the side and depress a metal tab on the contact to get it to pull out of the connector. With the wire end out of the connector it is a good idea to bend the little metal finger on the contact back out so it will hook into the "harmonica" better when you install it. Just make sure that you reinstall the wires in the same order between connectors.
