Reminds me of an awful situation which happened in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, back in 1998. A bunch of guys were involved in a high stakes poker game and the big winner, in lieu of money, was given the keys to a rented Ferrari for a weekend. On day two, he was going too fast on wet roads and packed it into a rock face. The car ended up on it's roof. All that was left was salvage material but the driver walked away with cuts and bruises. The guy who got the stinky end of the deal was the poor sucker who rented it because he had to put out $10,000 up front to secure the rental so instead of $2000 rental (which was bad enough) he got stuck with everything. The insurance was reluctant to pay because the sucker had listed himself as the driver and, of course, he wasn't.
The morale of the story? High stakes poker can be very, very expensive.
