Default Torque Spec for Front "V" Support

Is there one? ('70 BB)

I went thru the GM service manual spec section and didn't see anything listed that seemed to be the "V" support. I'm guessing the V term was created outside of GM.

My new support arrived from ZIP today and I'm ready to get it installed so I can move on to the radiator and support install.

I guess I should ask if there is any thing special I should know before I remove the old one???

Thanks in advance for your help!

V support? What the heck is a V support? You talking about the front bumper X member?

If they are 7/16 bolts, I would go 45 ft/lbs for grade 5 bolts and 55 ft/lbs for grade 8 fasteners. I just went through HELL to find one of these for my 70. It only took 2 tries to get a decent part.

Thanks Solid LT1, that's probably a good rule of thumb based on bolt grade markings. I'll crawl under later tonight and take a peek. My new unit looks fine, even though the box was beat to crap in shipping. We'll see how it fits.

Wombvette-
It's the V shaped piece about 6" wide that sits directly under the radiator support. Bolts to the frame with 4 bolts (2 on each end) and 2 bolts to the front bumper support in the center. It shows up in a couple of catalogs as a "Front V Support". Mine was rusted badly on the driver side bottom, it will evidently hold liquid due to the 2 large holes on top and 2 small ones underneath that are not at the low point to permit draining. This and the radiator support are the only rust areas on my car. Cheaper to replace than repair based on cost estimate of the radiator support. Hope this helps.

Thanks Guys!

Never in 35 years heard it called that.

GM called it a " bumper cross member " .

There is a torque spec listed in the '70 Chasis Service Manual for a "Frame Extension to Cross Memeber" and it's the only reference to a cross memeber.

ZIP has a part # BU318 (which I ordered) for a Front Bumper "V" Support. I saw it listed this way in other catalogs as well. Ironically nobody shows a picture or line drawing of the part in their frame assembly drawings so it me several days to figure how to make sure I was ordering what I need. So honestly, I didn't make the name up.

Thanks again for your help!
