Im really getting frustrated with these wipers. They are adjusted all the way down using the slotted sliders near the wiper motor, and they still sit up about 3 inches from the windshield stop when the wipers are parked. They also go about an inch off the windshield when they are all the way up. Is there another adjustment i can make, they were ok before i took them out. I have pictures if you need them
The procedure outlined in the 78' AIM I have says to use the "nut's transmission asm for adjustment". Could you have mixed up the left and right linkage?
On mine, the lever on the pass side is directly under the blade where yours seems to be rotated up 5 degrees or so. I can't recall, but will the arm go on the shaft only one way or can it be "clocked"?
I don't know what the problem is----- but here are some photos of my wipers that worked correctly before disassembly.

Looking at the photos after I posted them I noticed That your rods that run between the wipers ARE NOT AS MINE WERE LOOK AT THE CENTER (the area of the nuts) they look like they may be backwards.

Good catch , I've been looking at mine compared to his and knew something didn't look right but I couldn't figure it out.
On the part of the wiper that bolts to the car it has RH on the pass ride and LH on the drivers side. Isnt that correct? Is anybody else's like this?
Yeah, that is correct.
I'm going to have to look at my AIM but I'm thinking if you unhook the transmission from the motor while the motor is in it's parked position. Then position the arms per the AIM ( I think 1 arm goes under that stop ) then re-attach the transmission.
This section is just for fine tuning the arm postions.
i just did what the AIM suggested and they still came out the same. Is there an adjustment in the wiper motor itself, or at the blade? More pictures may also be helpful

I can't get any pictures of mine installed without taking the wiper door/grill apart (I tried lastnight) but I have a spare transmission and a couple wiper motors here.
If you can tell me what to take pictures of I'll be happy to take them.
It seems if you took the linkage arms off the motor there in the center then cycle the motor so your sure it's in the parked position, then position the blades in the down position before re-attaching the linkage it seems like you'd have to be almost dead on.
The motor can only allow so much blade movement.
I getting scared now because mine stopped working mid-sweep durning my last inspection and I took the motor off to get the blades down.
Someday I'm going to have to hook everything back up, I just hope I don't have to go though what your going through.

Have you noticed as I noted before that area in the center which rod is closest to the windshield. Mine is the driver side yours is NOT.
Here are more photos----- I layed it out just like if it was in place including all positions.
And now im confuzed. Ive been looking at some other pics of the linkages on the c3 pics section and all have the passenger side closest to the windshield ahhhh
One other thought, it looks like you detailed all that.
Is there any chance that it was taken completely apart.
I wondering if just the transmission linkages could have been re-attached to the wrong sides.
I'm talking only about the piece that goes from the wiper motor to the arm on the the post.
After I posted the picture above I see the linkage has RH stamped into it too I thought only the base had LH or RH on it.
I know they are or were riveted but if everything was disassembled while detailing anything could've happened.
dz rick,
no i havent fixed the problem, ive just put it on the backburner so i dont go crazy. When i took the system out i kept the bases and linkages together, i did not remove the rivets. I may go check today and see if they are on the right way anyway, but i did turn a spline inside the wiper motor about a half turn, would that effect it?
I dont think that arm (RH/Pass) is clocked correctly. Looking at it from thi view I think it need to be re-clocked clockwise a few degrees/spilines. If you line the arm up with that crank lever it should bring it back to an adjustable point. Once it is all adjusted at the center again you may need to readjust the door relay.
