Default Seat Bolt Size

Can anyone tell me the correct size for the bolts that fasten the seats down on a 75? I am doing a little refurbishing to my seats and have noticed that all of the bolts are stripped in varying severity. I would like to attempt to clean up the original threads before drilling and retapping but it wouldn't surprise me if a previous owner "bubba" forced the wrong size in them .

I have checked my AIM, but of course it only says "fastener". Thanks for the help guys!

I believe that they are 5/16" fine-thread (24? pitch I think). But they are grade 8 bolts (hardened) so they will be tough to drill out and not have the drill wander on you. Use lots of PB Blaster (penetrant) and let it sit for a day before you try to remove them with an EZout. Also, make sure you re-install grade 8 bolts; grade 3's or 5's may not hold you and the seat in place with a hard frontal impact.

NOT fine thread 5/16-18NC thread (5/16-24 is fine thread.) I find it is easier to use bolts with a pointed end like the front sway bar brackets mount with to drive through the carpeting when installing seats and belive Chevy used pointed seat bolts on the assembly line for the same reason.

I managed to get one out last night and it does appear to be a course thread 5/16-18. I'm glad to see that the correct size is in there. Thanks for the information and advice...hopefully I can get the project completed this weekend.

Heck. My [antique] memory failed me again. (At least I got the 5/16" part right.:o ) Glad you are having some success with it.
